Hillbilly bath!!!

Reagan is trying to catch up with Declan's oh-so-European tan. Just prior to this photo (and probably just after the one in the previous post) we had a pool incident reminiscent of Caddyshack, except it wasn't a Baby Ruth...

Update: Jenna wanted me to make it absolutely clear that the pool was cleaned after the incident and before their bath.

In the deep end with the cool kids. Well, in the deepest end of the pool. And alone.

"Would you like a glass of champag-na?" Declan as the Continental.

Well, it's Friday and the Weather Channel currently reports it's 80 degrees and sunny. I'd say it's closer to rainy and chilly. Of course it would have to start to rain just as I end the work week and plan on having some adult pop on the deck. Reagan doesn't seem to mind so much...

Brendan Shanahan excercised his option to stay with the Red Wings this year. He's getting a bit long in the tooth, but hopefully can return to his form of a few years ago. The last season with the Wings was his worst since 1989. He really needs to show his toughness now that Darren McCarty has been released.

Well, if you're in a good mood and want to depress yourself before the work week begins, perhaps you'll want to watch A&E on Sunday night to catch the show Intervention. This week you'll be able to see the self-destructive behavior of Cristine and Kelly. Cristine is a wife and mother who drinks at least 18 beers a day. Kelly is an anorexic who weighs 93 pounds and whose 6-year-old daughter is following in her footsteps, often picking at her food or refusing to eat altogether. Her friends are seeking help not just to save Kelly, but her daughter as well. Sounds like good watching...

Arg. So busy. Work has been a killer this week. The storms that went through the state really messed up my free time. Calling irritated customers until 10pm some nights is just too much. I'll try to post a few things by the weekend. I'm always looking for funny or interesting photos, so send them to me if you'd like to see them posted.

A Shave and a .357 If You Please...

I drove past this establishment just outside of Otter Lake while inspecting storm damage today. I had to turn around and get a photo. Only in America!

Friday evening lounging. We picked up some supplies for our camping trip this evening. When we returned home the kids were ready for milk and books. They're down and it's time for mom and dad to enjoy a few drinks on the deck to kick off the weekend. I'll be back later.

Reagan and Declan showing off their aritistic skills on the deck.

The Aviator?

Murphy the wonder dog sporting a new buzz cut. Now the Bernese Mountain Dog looks like a Swissy. On the plus side, there are fewer wads of hair on the carpet...

Stealth opens at theatres today, and boy, does it look stupid. A drone bomber goes rogue and begins to blow things up. I guess they could kill themselves trying to shoot it down, or wait a few hours until it runs out of gas and crashes on its own. I'm going to guess it's a mind-numbingly bad movie.

On the other hand, The Island starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johanssen looks pretty good. The trailers remind me of Logan's Run.

Why Canada sucks, and not even hockey can save it.

I inspected the property where the Flint police officer was killed during a chase on Saturday. The driver faces 7 felonies and you can get info on the whole story by clicking on the link. The damage to the house was mostly superficial. The homeownwer was asleep in a rear bedroom when the accident occurred. The two cruisers were going in excess of 50mph where they collided in the intersection. One of the cars flipped and landed against the house where it caught fire. The driver was able to get out, but the other officer did not. The homeowner helped put out the fire with his own garden hose. He seemed to still be shaken from the ordeal and is now trying to deal with the leftover mess.

There was debris all over the yard. We found safety glass from the curb all the way up to the house. The crash reconstructionists from the State Police were at the scene while I was completing my scope.

It's a tough call for the police when they have a person run on them. It appears the young man was only going to be stopped for questioning because he was sitting outside of a closed auto parts store. The police report the passenger, a woman, egged him into fleeing the police because she had an oustanding warrant.

Update: I just looked at the photos of this post and have to apologize for the crummy quality. I took them with the low setting on my digital camera.

Ride 'em cowgirl! Now, I know Lori and Gary look a little bored, but I was assured they were in a heavy discussion regarding the Riemann zeta function when this photo was taken.

Declan and Reagan meet Annabelle the pig. They both had a chance to feed her, and meet the new philly born in April, Miss Fancy.

Here are Declan, Brody, and Reagan. Gary and Lori joined us on Saturday to head over to a big party one of my vendors puts on every summer.

The weather didn't want to cooperate. The remains of Hurricane Dennis washed out most of the day and left us with a hot, muggy afternoon. We tried to make the best of it, but there was a lot of mud and keeping the kids from making a mess quickly became quite tedious.

How the Shepherd Saved the SEAL

Sci-Fi Geekly

The new season of Battlestar Galactica begins tonight, and yes, it's Friday, and I'll be home watching it. My excuse is that we have kids and cannot go out on the weekend...

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Opens Today

Megan Basham on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on National Review Online

I've been moving the blog away from politics and towards photos, fun stuff, and movies. I'll be planning to add reviews of movies and dvds as I either watch them or catch other's reviews online.

It's a Jeep Thing

My folks finally found new batteries for the Jeep. Declan loves it.

Declan's Day at the Fair 2

Declan's Day at the Fair

Declan and my parents enjoyed the Grandparents' day at the fair today. He was able to see a tractor pull, pet some animals, and take a whirl on a bunch of the rides. Everyone had a ball, and Jenna and Reagan enjoyed a girls only day at home.

Road House 2!

My brother will be thrilled to find out that Roadhouse 2 may become a reality. No word on whether Patrick Swayze will be reprising his role.

Woo Hoo!!!

I just received the stand down order for CAT duty for Hurricane Dennis. It looks like the family trip will go on (pending any other storms).

Brody in the Ocean

Here's my brother Gary with our godson Brody enjoying the weather and the ocean on their trip to North Carolina last week. Gary called to let me know Brody took his first steps on his own just yesterday!

Lake Huron, The Final Word

This is the last shot I'll be posting from our excursion today. We can't wait until our camping trip up in Traverse City.

Lake Huron, Take 3

Reagan's love/hate relationship with water continues. She loves it without a flotation device, and hates it when she wears one. Luckily the water was only about 12" deep out at least 100' from shore. She still had to wear her water wings for most of the day, but we let her sit at the edge of the water without when we were standing with her.

More Shots From Lake Huron

Sir, I believe the lake is that way.

Our future Olympic swimmer.

We Went To Lake Huron, One Of The Great Lakes, Or As The Indians Call It, Lake Huron

We headed out and met with Jenna's brother and his family today at their camper near Lake Huron. The weather was amazing. I was able to take some really great photos. We spent a few hours on the beach after lunch and headed back to relax at the campground. I wished we could have stayed overnight, but work calls tomorrow. The hurricane hit and it looked bad. I'm hoping I don't get called for storm duty, because if I do, I won't be able to go on our camping trip in August.

Here's another shot taken at the concert today. Declan insists on walking instead of riding in the wagon on our walks. He loves to pull Reagan around. By the way, this photo and the one in the previous post were both taken with a camera phone.

We headed downtown to catch a free concert on the courthouse lawn today. Jenna's dad put Declan up in the tree where he would have been happy to stay indefinately.

Blogger Photo Issues

Hmm. Home laptop sees the photos perfectly, but my work laptop is not displaying them. The photos uploaded by Flikr show up, but not the Blogger ones. I'll have to check with the help site I guess.

Terrorists Strike London With Series of Blasts

FOXNews.com - U.S. & World - Terrorists Strike London With Series of Blasts

I'm playing around with the new photo upload feature on Blogger.com. This is a shot from the other day of Reagan playing on the deck. I also want to see how the text wraps around the picture to make sure I like the look. I prefer the light text over the dark background. It seems to be easier on my eyes.

It looks like the first Atlantic hurricane is going to hit near the end of the week. I'm on the short list to be deployed when the next big storm hits. I should have jumped at the 3 day stint in Illinois in May. Now I may be stuck for 3-6 weeks down south during the dog days of summer. It's rough being away from the family that long, especially during the nice time of year here in Michigan.

I'll be checking the blog format tomorrow on my work laptop. I get a different view with my Dell because it has the 15.4" widescreen. I want to make sure standard displays don't need to do any scrolling to get the entire width of the blog to display.

New Look

I'm toying around with the look of the blog. I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions. My HTML skills are definately in the amateur catagory, so I you'll need to speak plain english for me to understand.

Man Charged With Stealing Wi-Fi Signal

Wow, someone has been arrested for stealing bandwidth. I know how easily this can be done. I just can't understand why this guy bothered to sit in front of the other fellow's house to do it. In my own subdivision, I can get on to at least 6 other networks. The first thing you should do when you get a wireless router is change the settings and lock in the highest encryption available.

It's the Good Ship Dys-lex-i-a...

Shot this while driving today. I passed this fellow and had to slow down to let him pass to get the shot. It gave me a nice chuckle. Perhaps he needed to do a little more praying...

Rangers, Marines, and Babies (Oh My)

These were two of the men in the parade. They were kind enough to take a second and let us get a photo with them. The sacrifice our fighting men and women make is almost impossible to put into words. I'm glad these guys are back and have a chance to enjoy the holiday with their families. Reagan was smiling just before the picture, and began wailing when I stepped back to take the photo.

Update: I checked with my father, a retired Marine, and he tells me he thinks the green braid on the shoulder indicates the 5th Marines, but he'd never seen it worn with a dress uniform. If anyone can confirm, let me know. I also know the other gentlemen is Airborne, but may not be a Ranger. I can't tell by the visible insignia his exact unit.

Update II: Many thanks to The Corner at NRO for link! Please check out the main page for many other 4th of July photos.
